Palestinian national and Islamic factions called on Sunday for popular demonstrations during US delegation visit to the peace process scheduled for the region at the end of this month.
In a statement issued after a meeting in the West Bank city of Ramallah, the factions considered the US position “biased” in favor of Israel, accusing Washington of pressuring the Palestinians to return to bilateral negotiations without specific references.
The statement said Washington “is pressing the Palestinian leadership to return to negotiations and accuses it of incitement in return for the release of Israel’s hand to plunder Palestinian land and impose a unilateral solution to the solutions of economic peace or a regional solution”.
It urged the Palestinian factions to participate in popular demonstrations to ensure adherence to the inalienable rights of the people, primarily the right of return, self-determination and national independence in a sovereign State with Jerusalem as its capital.
On Thursday, the foreign minister said the Palestinian leadership was waiting for US delegation to arrive in next two weeks, including White House Chief of Staff Jared Kushner and US special envoy Donald Trump for the peace process, Jason Greenblatt.
Maliki expected that US delegation hold clear answers to the questions posed by the Palestinian leadership to the US administration that it wants to be a sponsor of the peace science, or is a postman to transfer Israeli positions and whether it still adopts the two-state solution on the borders of June 4, 1967 or not”.
Last peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians ended at the end of March 2014 after nine months of US-sponsored talks without progress to resolve the decades-long conflict.
