John Cross revealed on Monday that Arsenal would be happy to sell Alexis Sanchez this summer if Arsene Wenger brings in Thomas Lemar from AS Monaco.
The Gunners are facing a battle to keep hold of their 28-year-old striker amid reported interest from Premier League rivals Manchester City and Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain.
Arsenal have failed to reach an agreement with Sanchez over a contract extension with less than 12 months remaining on his current Gunners deal.
The Gunners have already had two bids rejected for AS Monaco’s 21-year-old starlet this summer, according to reports in England.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 live’s Football Daily podcast about Sanchez’s future at the north London club beyond the summer transfer window, Daily Mirror reporter Cross said that Arsenal would be satisfied with losing the forward if Lemar arrives from Monaco.
“They’ve put in a lot of work on Thomas Lemar,” Cross said.
“If they can get Lemar in and Sanchez out for a decent fee and sell quite a few others, Wenger and the hierarchy will think it’s a very good summer even if they lose their star player.”
The north London side have already signed France international Alexandre Lacazette in a club-record £52m deal from Ligue 1 side Lyon.
The FA Cup winners added Bosnian defender Sead Kolasinac in a free transfer from Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04.
Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season but won the FA Cup thanks to a 2-1 win against Chelsea.
