Egypt is aiming for 400,000 Italian tourists in 2018, significantly more than last year’s total of 255,000, said Egyptian Ambassador to Italy Hisham Badr, speaking at the awards ceremony for the “Win Egypt” contest organised by the Egyptian Academy in Rome.
“Italian tourists are starting to return”, Badr said, adding that Italian tourism to Egypt increased 100% between 2016 and 2017.
Badr said that, although numbers are still far from those of 2010, when 1.2 million Italian tourists visited Egypt, “we’re making progress”.
The director of the Egyptian Tourism Board in Italy, Emad Abdalla, said in the first two months of 2018, Italian tourism to Egypt increased 50%.
He said that percentage is expected to increase during the summer months thanks to an increase this year of 100% to 200% in reservations.
