The United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Nikolay Mladenov, has conveyed a clear message from Israel to Hamas that “flammable kites will bring you a fourth war.”
Mladenov spent only four hours in the Gaza Strip, during which he met with Haniyeh and several Hamas leaders movement. He discussed with him reconciliation, his plan to save Gaza, the factors of a new bloody confrontation, and then held a press conference before leaving back to Jerusalem.
Some local media sources pointed out that Mladenov is not opposed to the “return marches”, but urged the Palestinians to continue “in a peaceful manner.”
Meanwhile, the Israeli leaders have launched new threats against Hamas. The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said yesterday morning that there is an “exchange of blows” with the Gaza Strip now, noting that the prevailing situation will not end with a single blow.
“We are living in a continuous Zionist struggle, and I do not want to say that it is over,” Mladenov said after meeting up with heads of settlement councils. Netanyahu said he gave orders to the army to “work on stopping the Gazans from releasing incendiary balloons”, stressing that “he will succeed in this matter the same way he previously did in eliminating tunnels and preventing infiltration across the borders.”
The Israeli Prime Minister said that the army “attacked Hamas yesterday in a very violent form, which is the strongest blow since the last war” before Egypt and Mladenov could reach a ceasefire agreement and return to the truce in force since the end of the last aggression on Gaza, summer of 2014.
